Lansdowne : A Peaceful Place


Lansdowne is a cantonment city in Pauri Garhwal in state Uttarakhand . It was originally was founded by Lord Lansdowne, who was one of the viceroy’s of India during the British rule in India around (1888-1894) . The city was initially a recruitment centre of Garhwal Rifles. Garwhal Rifles earlier was under the British troops now they are under the Indian Regiments. It is situated at a height of 5587 ft and all the areas are being surrounded by the pine & Deodar trees.





How to Reach the Place  ?

By Train: Two trains run from Delhi to Kotdwar (Mussorie Express and Garhwal Express). By Road: From Kotdwar it's about 40 km away. From Haridwar, a bus to Kotdwara. This will take approximately an hour.

What to see ?
Tarkeshwar Mahadev
It is a village 36 km from Lansdowne and at a height of 1,800 m. The place is known for its temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Surrounded by thick forests of deodar and pine, it is an ideal place for those who seek for beauty in nature. During Shivratri, a special worship is held. The temple committee provides a dharamshala for accommodation.

St. Mary’s Church
A Catholic Church of historical importance, St. Mary's Church is located near Tip N Top Point in Lansdowne. In 1895, St. Mary's Church was constructed by Col. A.H.B Hume of the Royal Engineers. Historian as well as normal visitors like to visit this jewel in Lansdowne city, St Mary's Church adds to the charm and tranquility of the surrounding.

Garhwal Rifles War Memorial


The Garhwal Rifles Regimental War Memorial at Lansdowne was established on 11th November 1923. Lord Rawlinson of Trent, the then Commander in Chief of India, founded this museum. A major tourist attraction of the destination, this war memorial is located at the Parade Ground. It is one of the few tourist attractions that is visited by almost every traveler coming to Lansdowne. Tourists who are interested in knowing about the Indian army also throng this place


Tip N Top View Point



A small hill top viewpoint in Lansdowne, Tip N Top as the name suggests is one of the highest places in Lansdowne. Located at just 1.5 km from main Lansdowne city Centre, Tip N Top is best place in Lansdowne to watch complete skyline with magnificent Shivalik range.
